Ronald S. Fernando, J.D., M.A.Sc. (EE)
Ron has over ten years of experience assessing and securing patent protection, and other forms of intellectual property (IP), for a wide variety of high-tech clientele.
In particular, Ron specializes in preparing and prosecuting patent applications in the United States and directing foreign counsel’s prosecution of co-pending foreign patent applications in key international technology markets. Ron’s practice also includes counseling on licensing, infringement and validity issues, confidentiality agreements, and IP due diligence for mergers and acquisitions and IP asset purchases.
Ron has a master’s degree in electrical engineering. His technical experience includes: designing radio frequency circuits for CMOS fabrication; developing stochastic models for wireless communication channels; designing wireless transceiver systems incorporating stochastically derived digital signal processing techniques, including hard and soft decoding of forward error control (FEC) encoded signals; and, his Master’s dissertation entitled “Simplified Joint-Iterative Demodulation and Decoding of M-DPSK Signals Over Rayleigh Flat-Fading Channels.” Ron’s technical strengths have been appreciated by clients engaged in the design and production of consumer electronics, communication systems, memory, mixed-signal circuits, e-commerce, internet-based software applications, fuel cells and hearing aids.
